sNOM M58-Caller ID Display Guide
Snom M58 – Caller ID Display Guide
Midwest Technology – Business Technology Simplified
Overview
The Snom M58 displays both the caller ID name and caller ID number on incoming calls, as long as this information is provided by your phone system or VoIP provider. This guide explains how caller ID works and how to customize or troubleshoot the display.
Caller ID Display Behavior
1. On incoming calls, the Snom M58 shows:
- The caller’s name (e.g., John Smith)
- The caller’s number (e.g.,
555-123-4567)
2. If only the number is supplied, the display will show the number only.
3. The information appears on the screen's top portion during the ring.
Requirements for Caller ID
• Your VoIP system must include caller ID name and number in
the SIP INVITE.
• The Snom M58 must be registered to the base station and have a SIP account
properly configured.
• The phone firmware should be up to date.
Customizing Caller ID Behavior
While the M58 itself has limited customization options for
caller ID, most caller ID behavior can be customized from your phone system or
PBX, such as:
- Prepending call source info (e.g., 'Sales: John Smith')
- Modifying display formats through SIP headers
- Using dial plans to change how names/numbers appear
Consult your PBX or VoIP provider documentation for these settings.
Troubleshooting Caller ID Issues
If caller ID is not displaying as expected:
- Verify the SIP account is registered correctly.
- Ensure caller ID is enabled in the PBX or VoIP platform.
- Check if calls from other extensions show caller ID.
- Update firmware on the Snom M58 and base station.
